L’Ouvroir de tragécomédie potentielle, généralement désigné par son acronyme, Outrapo, a été fondé à Londres en 1991. Il cherche à explorer les possibilités passées, présentes et à venir de l’art scénique. L’Outrapo est un atelier de recherches sur les potentialités du théâtre. À partir d’une contrainte formelle arbitraire, qui peut bouleverser les aspects habituels et connus du travail théâtral, il s’agit de découvrir des structures négligées jusqu’ici ou de les faire émerger. « En s’imposant des formes théâtrales, en se restreignant volontairement, l’acteur dépasse son jeu habituel, donne naissance à une expression nouvelle ou à la redécouverte des possibilités non explorées d’une forme ancienne ». L’Outrapo traite aussi des possibilités de nouvelles formes au théâtre ou dans le jeu dramatique au sens large.
L’Ouvroir de Tragecomédie Potential, generally referred to by its acronym, Outrapo, was founded in London in 1991 to explore past, present and future possibilities of the performing arts. The Outrapo is a research workshop for the potentialities of theatre, in that an arbitrary formal constraint can upset the usual and known aspects of theatrical work, it therefore can become a question of discovering neglected structures, or of making them emerge. “By imposing theatrical forms on himself, by voluntarily restricting himself, the actor goes beyond his usual acting, gives birth to a new expression or to the rediscovery of the unexplored possibilities of an old form”. The Outrapo also deal with the possibilities of new forms in the theatre or in dramatic play.
